TRT – A BRIEF OVERVIEW
Turkish Radio and Television Corporation
Turkey’s “first” and “only” public broadcasting corporation,
the TRT was founded on May 1, 1964.
The radio station that had started
broadcasting on May 5, 1927 was now under the TRT umbrella. Taking us to
different worlds when we hit the button or move the meter, radio, was joined by
a new friend towards the end of the 60s: Television... Turkey met the television
for the first time on January 31, 1968 through the TRT. With its 81 year radio
and 40 year old television, the TRT is the living memory of the history of the
Republic of Turkey. With its experience and responsibility, it is a monument of
reliability and the symbol of our unity.
Infancy times were, of course,
times of problems and challenges. The broadcasting adventure started in a small
studio on Mithatpaşa in poor conditions. However, the will of the staff to
overcome all the challenges and devoted efforts gave fruit in a short time; and
the TRT guaranteed its everlasting place in the heart of the Turkish nation. In
modern times, being both a broadcasting school and the most reliable
broadcasting corporation in Turkey, the TRT educated the most successful
Television producers. Therefore, colorful and joyous programs have come to life
on the screen.
The TRT did not settle as being only a “broadcasting
corporation” of radio and television, but it also became the essential address
of education. The aforementioned function was not limited to educating the
broadcasting staff. The TRT became an indispensable source with its educative
programs along with the news and information it broadcasts...
Carrying such
a meaningful and indispensable flag, the TRT, with its impartial and reliable
news as well as programs of finest quality, never sacrificing the public
broadcasting principle, has gained its rightful place among the world’s best.
We can possibly outline the factors bringing about this success as follows:
